Welcome to Kate and Ed's Excellent Adventure (recap)! We begin this story the day before Kate and Ed's wedding when I attended the rehearsal. Their backyard is beautiful and perfect for an intimate summer wedding ceremony. However it is small enough that it was not obvious where I could stand for the photos. Pictures of the couple's faces meant I basically had to stand up there with them, pictures from the other side meant I would be standing in front of guests. I am glad I attended the rehearsal so we could figure out where I would go and more importantly, I got a fabulous shot of the girls rehearsing their reading, which was a total bonus. We also discovered that the sun was directly in Kate's eyes during the ceremony and knew that would need to be addressed the following day. Fast forward a day and these crazy kids have planned a busy, DIY wedding with new events around every corner. First a pre-wedding dinner and drink party in their yard. While cleaning up the food, a couple friends climbed on the roof of the garage to create a makeshift sunblock while guests rearranged the chairs. The bride's entrance to Daydream Believer played on piano by Hilton, Ed's father, accompanied by everyone else playing the kazoo. Then the backyard ceremony officiated by Dave who got his Pastafarian license from the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster. Que bagpiper who lead a parade of pedestrians and pedicabs to the Sanctuary where the reception was held. Guests were treated to all the 80s and 90s rock they could handle and free-flowing wine. At one point Dave invited everyone to participate in a dollar dance to the song Hot for Teacher where guests took turns dancing with the bride and groom for cash (for their honeymoon). Some of the methods of delivering the cash were quite diabolical and we all laughed so much it hurt. After that it was dancing and laughing until it was time to go home. Congratulations you guys. You threw an amazing wedding!
