Kate and Ed's Wedding

Welcome to Kate and Ed's Excellent Adventure (recap)!   We begin this story the day before Kate and Ed's wedding when I attended the rehearsal.  Their backyard is beautiful and perfect for an intimate summer wedding ceremony.  However it is small enough that it was not obvious where I could stand for the photos.  Pictures of the couple's faces meant I basically had to stand up there with them, pictures from the other side meant I would be standing in front of guests.   I am glad I attended the rehearsal so we could figure out where I would go and more importantly, I got a fabulous shot of the girls rehearsing their reading, which was a total bonus.  We also discovered that the sun was directly in Kate's eyes during the ceremony and knew that would need to be addressed the following day. Fast forward a day and these crazy kids have planned a busy, DIY wedding with new events around every corner.  First a pre-wedding dinner and drink party in their yard.  While cleaning up the food, a couple friends climbed on the roof of the garage to create a makeshift sunblock while guests rearranged the chairs.  The bride's entrance to Daydream Believer played on piano by Hilton, Ed's father, accompanied by everyone else playing the kazoo.  Then the backyard ceremony officiated by Dave who got his Pastafarian license from the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster.  Que bagpiper who lead a parade of pedestrians and pedicabs to the Sanctuary where the reception was held.   Guests were treated to all the 80s and 90s rock they could handle and free-flowing wine.   At one point Dave invited everyone to participate in a dollar dance to the song Hot for Teacher where guests took turns dancing with the bride and groom for cash (for their honeymoon).  Some of the methods of delivering the cash were quite diabolical and we all laughed so much it hurt.  After that it was dancing and laughing until it was time to go home.  Congratulations you guys.  You threw an amazing wedding!

I helped celebrate Ray and Claudette Bedingfield's 50th wedding anniversary party with event photos.  Their marvelously talented daughter Laurel designed and made all of the decorations including headbands adorned with pictures of the couple or the number "50".  As a surprise she encouraged everyone to wear gold (for the Golden Anniversary) and it was fun to see how each person interpreted the request.  Kenny managed to find a golden Elvis jacket in the back of a closet.  Friends and family mingled on the porch while caterers served sangria, beer, and hors d'oeuvres.  Claudette's brother Danny, who acted as the Officiant for the evening, donned a religious-looking costume for most of the night and had many guests perplexed as he is a Unitarian minister (the robe was a joke).  When Ray and Claudette renewed their vows there was some ad libbing by Claudette who announced that after 50 years of marriage she vows to stop nagging.  Ray immediately said "I do" before she could change her mind.  Later a quartet of Laurel, Nathan, Logan, and Danny performed an Elvis song.  When they began to struggle with the words, Claudette joined them to finish it off.  A wonderful time was had by all.   Happy Anniversary to a truly beautiful couple.  Hope to see you at the 75th.

Samantha's Continuation - Event Photography

I took photos of of our friend Samantha's Continuation from elementary school.  The transition into middle school around here is a big deal.  Maybe it's that way everywhere?  Just wasn't that way when I was in school.  Of course those were the dark ages. There are certificates of completion, cake, flowers, and commendations for all the kids who complete elementary school.  I was impressed to see that the school had a sign language interpreter at the graduation - like the big leagues! The teachers cleverly planned a photo op after the ceremony where all the kids stood on the steps to the school for about five minutes and families could take turns getting a photo of the entire 5th grade together.  Of course the kids weren't all looking in the same direction but you get the idea.  There was a huge party at a student's house afterward, for the entire fifth grade, that I wish I could have attended.  They did a water-gun/water-balloon version of the Hunger Games.  I'm sure it was a riot.

Congratulations Samantha!  I'm sure you will have a great time at Skinner!
